Introduction
‘Understanding Gambling Related Harm and its links to crime’ is a course that has been developed by lived experience, using real life accounts along with recognised research and data. It serves to raise awareness of what Gambling Related Harm is and how that can lead to crime. Our aim is to deliver this session to people working within the Criminal Justice System to gain a better understanding of Gambling Related Harm and to take these learnings in to their day-to-day working environment. We believe in lived experience making a difference and helping others LEARN from those experiences. This is one of GamLEARN’s core aims.
Understanding Gambling Related Harm and its links to Crime

Our continuing professional development (CPD) course on Gambling Related Harm has been developed with Gambling Harm UK and has had lived experience members of GamLEARN help shape and design this session. The course features in-depth video experiences of members who have been through the legal process – from the point of arrest to experiencing custodial sentences.
We know more can be done, and with this training, we hope to provide people working within the system with a better understanding of Gambling Harm.

Research and data which shows the prevalence of gambling in the UK.
The role of products through promotion and AI.
How suicide is also a high risk within the gambling harms space.
Understand the support and treatment services available for individuals.
The impact on the gambler and affected others.
Supporting evidence for mitigation.
Evaluations
Since the launch of our CJS course in October 2023, we have been collating feedback from professionals working within the criminal justice system and supportive services to ascertain the course’s impact. This evaluation will help guide GamLEARN in improving the course, understanding how we can help those who attend, and shaping further training and support for the future.
